Kuri Yorigami- Spinning Room

16/05/09 -  14/06/09

Kuri Yorigami makes ambiguous objects. Beside their apparent ordinariness they hide complex embroideries representing mental landscapes and colourful cataclysms. Mischievously placed in the blind spots of an ordinary perception these encased visions remain invisible and ask to take unusual positions for watching them. While from above the dining table is a plain surface, ready to use, underneath an improbable garden swarms with a horde of fantastic animals, growling, hunting and fleeing through horrific vegetation.

Interfering with each nook of an ordinary situation, these meticulous images of disaster seem to grant the wishes of a disappeared child.

Remembering the domestic space as an arsenal of masks, Kuri Yorigami’s hiding places smuggle images into everyday life. More, each of these secret vaults is an image itself, the map of a disrupted microcosm.

Juxtaposing in a single real place several spaces, several sites that are themselves incompatible, the dislocated geography of Kuri Yorigami’s objects un-furnish the space and diffract the perceptions.

Like the thread passing through the fabric, transporting vision from one side to the other, her activity seems to consist in a meticulous and patient undermining of  everyday life.
